We asked Nancy to introduce herself & tell us a little bit about her!
Nancy J. Lee is the owner of Petals And Moss. She has resided in Red Hook for over 25 years after moving from Woodstock. Nancy is a mother of three lovely girls, twins, Ariane O’Connor, now in Boston MA, and Kelley Geraghty, residing in Galway Ireland and Tanya Garrett, of Culver City, CA. She’s super proud to now have 6 Grandkids!
Before owning Petals And Moss, Nancy owned Quiggles Kidswear, a line of hand painted children’s wear sold online, at wholesale shows in NYC and Atlanta, and at retail juried Craft Shows throughout New England. Quiggles Kidswear was in business from 1983-2015! You can still find it on Facebook (Quiggles Kidswear). Over 25 original designs, hand died and painted, machine washable, with matching accessories
We asked Nancy to tell us about her business! Here’s what she had to say!
Petals and Moss was created in 2015, tired of traveling every weekend to an event, Nancy searched for a new passion. Having been an avid gardener all of her life, loving flowers and nature, she took some classes at the New York Botanical Garden in Floral Design, fell in love with it and pursued a new career. Nancy’s teacher and mentor became a good friend, she free lanced with him, and helped work on the Pasadena Rosebowl Parade Floats, for several years, worked a few events and weddings in Brooklyn, and Manhattan, supplied her daughter, Tanya’s shop in Brooklyn with dried and fresh florals!
Nancy was discovered by Terrain, she worked with them wholesaling, and making wreaths for several years, shipping palettes to their 4 locations nationwide. Then Nancy saw 6 E Market Street in Red Hook for rent. She approached Todd Baright about a pop-up business, (not ready to commit full time to retail), he agreed, and Petals and Moss Floral Design retail location, all began. Eight years later Petals And Moss is still servicing the community with fresh floral deliveries, dried bouquets, hotel installations, workshops, weddings and events, custom florals for local businesses and botanical gifts. Nancy sources flowers from her own garden, and other local farms in season, and from the wholesale floral industry creating the natural, whimsical style Petals And Moss is known for.
Nancy is still working with professionals at The Philadelphia Flower Show, for the past 4 years, gaining knowledge and inspiration in floral design, latest trends, taking workshops to keep on trend with what’s new and exciting in our industry, brings new design to the shop.

We asked Nancy, if you could do something different when it comes to running your business what would it be?
Nancy said she wasn’t sure! She said “perhaps having retail help, but when I create most of what walks out the door, that can be challenging".”
What is one lesson Nancy has learned from owning a business:
“Being your own boss, takes commitment, tenacity, and a positive attitude. Customer service, and good business sense is a must. Offering something different to customers that they can’t get anywhere. Being part of the community and working with other retailers.”
